Heather starts to bloom in Florida
Scottish
champion Heather Stirling moved up into joint third place after the second
round of the United States Futures Tour Qualifying School near Orlando,
Florida on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old from Bridge of Allan shot a one-over-par 73 for a halfway
total of 145, five strokes behind leader Lisette Lee from Los Angeles.
Lisette is on four-under 140, thanks to scores of 71 and 67.
England has two players in the top 25 in the shape of Sussex amateur Rebecca
Prout, tied for ninth place on 147 after a 71, and British women's amateur
open champion Rebecca Hudson from Doncaster. Rebecca, who has turned pro
with an I M G contract, is tied for 25th place after a 75 for 151.
Last year's Scottish title-winner, Linzi Morton (Tulliallan) had a 79
for 157, the same mark as lesser-known compatriot Fiona Watson (Dumfries
wh had a second-day 77. They are lying in joint 93rd place.
Also on 157 is England amateur international Kirsty Fisher from Lancashire.
Like her golfing buddy, Rebecca Hudson, Kirsty has committed herself to
professional golf rather than keep the door open, as is now permitted
under the modified R&A Rules of Amateur Status.
Miss Fisher, whose dad and grandfather both played rugby for Scotland,
has a 78 for 157.
Sadly, Aberdonian Claire Hunter failed to break 80 for the second day
in a row, adding an 82 to her first-round 83 for 165. Oregon-base Claire
is tied for 194th place in the field which has been pared down to 276.
Only the leading 100 at the end of Thursday's third round will progress
to the final round at the end of which only the top 38 will gain full
playing rights on next year's Futures Tour, the No 2 women's pro circuit
in America.
